To get data science jobs is it worth attending a data science boot camp
To get data science jobs the value in a data science boot camp is the fact that you are there to learn and one is surrounded by people with the same goal. It is much easier to learn in an environment like that then on your own; you will also learn from smart people there trying to learn things which you could find pretty inspiring. Also having the direction which a boot camp designed to take you into the world of data science gives you a good amount of breadth in the field of data science. This can be hard to get when trying to learn on your own.
However, there are some costs to such bootcamps: They can be pretty stressful as you are trying to cram a lot of knowledge into a fairly short period of time, the cost can be pretty high and a lot of commitment is required adding to the stress. However, for some the stress is probably worth it..
The main issue would be that not everyone may get data science jobs at the end and such boot camps don’t necessarily work for everyone. You will perhaps need to do some research seeing what percentage of students following on from a particular bootcamp go on to get a job.
Obviously there are alternatives to data science bootcamps. You could take courses, do various projects and learn on your own in your spare time. This option would obviously be slower and in some ways harder but it could potentially work. Also depending on where you are currently in your journey you could maybe get a position where you would work closely with data scientists and move on from there.
In summary a lot would depend on the individuals circumstances - where they are on their journey, a persons temperament and financial situation (ability to pay for a data science bootcamp).
